Tools I Use to Make Hair Bows

Ribbons
When I make hair bows, I use two different ribbons that complement each other. Sometimes they are two different patterns, other times they are two colors, and occasionally I will use one colored ribbon and one patterned ribbon together. I love shopping at craft stores for ribbons, and I always look for two – one big and one small – to make the hair bows.
Bowdabra
The Bowdabra features plastic construction with small spaces for me to thread the ribbons through. This tool helps my process go much easier and faster as it only uses three steps. I start with the broader ribbon and make three loops on each side. After pressing it down with the wand, I thread the smaller ribbon on top of it and press down again.
Bow Wire
After the ribbon is pressed down, I thread bow wire through the Bowdabra from one end to another. I then use it to tie around the bow snugly. I love this wire as it helps keep the ribbon from slipping out and is pretty durable. I usually cover it up with a small ribbon to hang down the tail ends.
Hair Clips
Once the bow has been tied and glued together, it’s time to add the clips on the back. I use two different types: metal alligator clips and plastic barrette clips. Whenever I make a bow, I like to make half with the alligator clips and half with the barrette clips. This way, I let my customers choose which one they want.
Hot Glue Gun & Scissors
These tools are flashy, but boy, are they essential. I use the scissors to cut the ribbon and wire to the lengths I need and make the accents on the ends. The glue gun helps make sure everything is safe and secure and attaches the clip to the back of the bow. And with all these tools, I make my hair bows!
